Editorial
Hello
Dear Reader, and Welcome to TQ61. You will be aware that the blogsite recently
underwent a revamp. Thanks for those who got in touch, feedback has been 100%
positive. Don’t forget to be a regular visitor otherwise you will miss out the
new EXTQRA feature.
Check it
out – www.tqzine.blogspot.com
We
continue to be extremely busy here at TQHQ as plans to revamp the physical zine
get underway. The changes will be subtle and gradual, but rest assured your
favourite features are going nowhere. We hope you continue to like what we are
doing.
That’s
enough about the future, and we will leave Trixie (front cover star) to ponder
the exciting features coming soon. What about the issue you currently hold in
your hands?
“DIVE
IN.
READ.
INVESTIGATE,
LISTEN,…”
We have
interviews with Jay Reeve of the Muteant Sounds netlabel and with Rutger Van
Zuydervelt AKA Machinefabriek.
There
are reviews aplenty as we consider the WAVELENGHT electronic music clubs
inaugural get together, an album titled simply + which sees Machinefabriek
working with over 50 collaborators, TQLive with Gidouille, TSR2 and
BigRoadBreaker, we pop our head around the door at an intimate Bartholomew gig,
we gatecrash the Tyneside Improvisers Workshop, and lastly (but in no way
least) we review the 150-minute continuous performance curated by Auntie Joy
and featuring The Church Bell Ringers, John Pope, Sally Pilkington, Christian
Alderson and Faye MacCalman, plus cameo sets from NofC and TQ.
Additional
features include a treatise on How to Make Music, Tony Van Dorst speaks to us
about cataloguing his collection and what he’s been listening to, and there’s
an extended piece on The Agar Band.
While
stocks last, subscriber goodies include:
- A DL
Code for Live at The Fulford Arms by TSR2, with several lucky readers also
receiving a code for their debut album, Divebomber.
- 29
subscribers receive a code for the Colour Tones album by Machinefabriek
- A code
for a random album from the MuteAnt Sounds back catalogue.
So,
until next time dear readers, dive in, read, investigate, listen, and support
the scene in any way you can. Your next TQ will be a bumper Summer Special, so
get your sun hats, sunscreen, deck chairs and curious ears ready.
