THE
WERRA FOXMA MAGAZINE.
YEAR
TWO. ISSUE FIVE.
Hi
everyone.
Thank
you for picking up this latest issue of the WFR Magazine, and it’s our biggest
yet. I hope you enjoy it.
We have
loads to share with you. We speak to our cover artist Cholly about her mesmerizing debut album ‘Anomaly’, and shares some
of her processes on how she creates her wall-of-sample, vocal electro sound.
Her album is not to be missed. We also catch up with Matt Donatelli, aka Survey Channel, and we talk about his
gorgeous new album, Canvas Doubles.
This
issue’s cover CD comes courtesy of DiN legend Ian Boddy, whose well-known Berlin School-esque modular odysseys
have delighted thousands through the years. Our man Mike Stanton grabbed Ian a feature interview, too.
The 2023
WFR SubClub has had a bit of a makeover, courtesy of The Shadow Library, aka graphic designer Andy Heggs. We cover the first 3 releases from the 2023 schedule,
featuring interviews with Finland’s 4T
Thieves, Japan’s Nyoral and
Northern Ireland’s John Haughey.
We also
felt that the musicians are hogging too much of the limelight these days, so we
shone the spotlight on some of the indie electronica’s most renpwed graphic
designers for some insight and thought process gems. They really are an inspirational
bunch, and we thank them for their contributions to the scene.
We also
welcome back Rick Flynn for his now
regular reviews section, which we have doubled in size (he does buy a lot of
records, does our Rick), Mike dwells
on the monolithic legacy of Gary Numan,
and godmother of DIY pop Claire Welles
picks out her favourite 3 records for us.
Finally,
you’ll notice information about our 3 WFR events for 2023 dotted around the
magazine; WFR NorthWest (March), WFR London (June), and WFR // NYC (October).
If you haven’t bought your tickets for these events, and would like to come
along, please snap your tickets up early to:
A –
avoid disappointment
B – help
me sleep at night knowing that you’re coming, rather than waiting til the last
minute. I am going grey fast enough without the squeaky bum time!
Enjoy,
and take care.
