To welcome in 2020 Team TQ are Giving subscribers 3 freebies (While stocks last)

1. No Audience Underground – The Board Game designed and supplied by Chris Whitehead allows you to experience the highs and lows of being part of the DIY subculture without ever leaving your armchair (except to go and fetch a dice and some counters before you start). Imagine the excitement as you play gigs, test a fab new pedal and maybe even get reviewed in The Wire! It all culminates In the most prestigious accolade possible: your picture at the cover of TQ. As the Ramones put it:

“Ho! Hey! Let’s play!”

2. BVRTH (pronounced “birth”) is the latest from Boston born musician Derek Virta, currently based in Hungary. Your free album download can be redeemed at: http://bvrth.bandcamp.com/yum. The songs are an exploratory eclectic, fluid mix of electronic and freak folk elements.

3. Animal Wife is the debut physical release from Pinnel, and somewhere in your package you will find a CDr copy. Many of you will remember her set as Tusk 2018 where she transfixed the audience. This album is no less mesmerizing and is part of her Blue Topography project. We caught up with Lindsay at Supernatural Café, Newcastle for an insight into the project and in particular the recording of the album. Thanks also to Lindsay for the cover design.

So, that’s the freebies sorted, what else have we to tickle your buds?

. In the centre of this issue you have a feature dedicated to the sounds of St James Infirmary and his 20019 almanac series of CDr’s.

. We ponder the mysteries of WIP

. Last year’s Woodland Gathering in Cumbria, England gets a fair outing

. What happens when you move to Suffolk and need to find new experimental DIY sounds?

Thanks this issue: Al Reed, Ash Cooke, Chris Whitehead, Darren Holloway, Gary Raine, Gary W Lang, Jo Wood, Lindsay Duncanson, Paul Wormhole, Matthew Shenton

THE WERRA FOXMA MAGAZINE.

ISSUE 4.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to issue 4! Well, me made it to end the year, through all of life’s ups and downs. It’s been as eventful a year as we could have hoped for. Not everything went our way, but life isn’t a straight path, and some curveballs were served up and dealt with, alongside some spectacular hight points

Issue 4 is another feature packed affair, and starting from now, I have some help putting the magazine together. Enter Michael Stanton and Rick Flynn! Michael will handle some of the main features for us, and Rick is going lo look after quarterly reviews, highlighting the best releases from our indie electronic scene.

We put Michael and Rick straight to work this issue. Rick presents his 10 favourite albums of 2022 (plus honourable mentions), and Michael digs into the state of the indie electronic scene, and looks at some of the highlights of 2022, plus a lovely article on often-overlooked Edinburgh duo, Yimino.

The recent Castles in Space Levitation ’22 and WFR North Plan B are reviewed, as well as bringing you the line up for our latest festival, WFR NorthWest, help in Lancaster next March, with a massive lineup including Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan, Sulk Rooms, Elizabeth Crompton and many more.

The first full year of the WFR SubClub is in the books, and what a fisrt year we have had! The year is completed with a trio of incredible albums from names familiar to everyone, including Autumna, Mike K Smith, and Sulk Rooms.

Our 3 artist features come from across the Atlantic. The next two albums on the label are covered in depth, including this issue’s cover artist, Bendu, and his hypnotic new LP, Portaling. We also chat to Burial Grid, as we find out about his new album, Music for No Tomorrow. We also take a trip through the studio of Survey Channel, ahead of next year’s LP, Canvas Doubles.

And finally, we let you look at some of the releases to look forward to from the WFR 2023 roster. We are incredibly proud of the lineup that’s taken from over the last few months, and we can’t wait to share some more amazing music with you next year.

Enjoy, and take care,

Fra
