WELCOME
TO ISSUE 3 OF THE WERRA FOXMA MAGAZINE
Hello
everyone,
Issue 3
is finally here!
Man o
man, we have a lot to cover in this issue. So much so, we had to increase the
size of the magazine to accommodate everything.
The
first thing you probably noticed… a cover CD? Damn right! In the spirit of
bringing you as much value to magazine as possible, we recruited the services
of three WFR artists: Cholly, Letters From Mouse and Sulk Rooms to bring their
amazing live and improvisational sounds to ‘One Shot’, a CD of long-form
performances recorded live, with every nuance and element being triggered and
performed on the fly.
Talking
about live, we thought it important to look back of some of the fun live
experiences of the summer, especially Emotion Wave’s ‘A Day In The Sun’
festival in Liverpool, and our first live stream festival, Foxfest. Massive
thanks to everyone who took part in these awesome happenings. These two events
led to the creation of ‘WFR North’, our first brick and mortar festival, coming
to Edinburgh on 22 October. More information on WFR North on page 6.
Our
cover artist for this issue is the amazing Elizabeth Crompton. Her forthcoming
album, Problems Of Other Minds, is an absolute triumph. Deep, emotional, and
stunning from beginning to end. It sees WFR entering uncharted territory – an
electronic album with vocals. Everyone at the label is seriously excited for
this one, and we are in no doubt you will embrace it as much as we have.
The same
goes for Viewers, the new Sulk Rooms LP from the one and only Thomas Ragsdale,
and we roll out the full release plan for Dohnavùr, which covers multiple
reissues, remixes, and releases which have come home to roost.
It’s
another stellar period of albums from the SubClub, with The Metamorph, Letters
From Mouse and Gribbles enchanting us with three fresh new LPs of enduring
quality.
Our
artist for this issue’s ‘The Process’ is the guru of generative electronic music,
Glasgow’s Mike K Smith. We hope you enjoy his Ableton-centric approach to
random sound, and how rewarding the process can be. We also shine a light on
the first 5 independent record stores to stock our records. We have already
added more into the pipeline, but more about that in the next magazine.
Lastly,
it’s with great excitement to announce that, starting from issue 4, we welcome
the journalistic expertise of Michael Stanton to the WFR magazine. I’ve been
winging it on my own since the start of this journey with the magazine, and I’m
fast running out of adjectives to describe our amazing artists and music. So
it’s with a mixture of relief and excitement that I have someone with 20 years
of music journalism experience to share the load with. Mike, welcome to the
team.
Enjoy
this issue.
