2007: NW-A800: First Video Walkman

The NW-A800 was well built, with a sharp OLED screen and excellent audio quality. As a device, it did little wrong. But 2007 changed the rules. When the smartphone arrived, music stopped being the reason for the device and became one tile among many, alongside maps, messages, and the web itself. Jogging playlists and pocket video suddenly belonged on a screen that absorbed everything. The Walkman was still something you carried. The phone became somewhere you lived. The crisis wasn’t interface design. It was relevance.
